Here is a collection of some of the Writing Research we have complied. If there is anything special you would like us to blog about next, just send us a message.
Writing Principles:
  • Bechdel Test - a method for evaluating the portrayal of women in fiction
  • Chekhov's Gun - every element in your story should have a purpose. Irrelevant elements should be removed.
  • 5 Finger Test - a method of testing whether a book is an appropriate reading level for a child

Worksheets:
Resources:
  • Writer's Digest - Writers Digest is an American writing magazine with 8 issues a year. They also have an online website with articles, writing competitions, writing prompts, classes, etc.
    • Articles - You can search their articles by Writing Goal, Writing Genre/Category, or Writing Level
  • Purdue OWL - The Purdue Owl is a great resource on general writing and grammar. The Purdue OWL is run by Purdue University, mainly as a resource for its students, so it gives a lot of information for writing university papers. But it does have a lot of general information that applies to all kinds of writing.
    • Many of you probably used the OWL before, but they just redesigned their website, so it looks very, very different.
    • Literary Terms
